Distinguishing characteristics (within family/genus):
This genus is distinctive when in flower due to the bright purple colour and fringing of the petals. Thysanotus tuberosus is distinguished from T. patersonii by its erect tufted habit

There are two subspecies, both in Victoria, however only subsp. tuberosus is found at the Prom.
